What makes a TV show worth watching? And more: what makes is worth producing? How can a TV series’ faith be decided after just one episode? What makes them fail?
Let’s try and find the answers to these questions by investigating briefly some of the TV shows that collapsed before rising:

The Debbie King Show – Debbie King is a popular U.K. TV show host that previously presented Quizmania. The new show was a live phone-in quiz, where the viewers sent texts or phoned towards currently happening events. Before the first edition aired on ITV Play, ITV announced they would cancel all the programmes due to some investigations regarding the premium-rate phone services. Still, ITV Play forced the airing of the live Debbie King Show. The following week ITV Play limited transmissions and Debbie King Show was cancelled after only 2.5 hours live.

The Rich List – The British Producers of the famous TV shows The Weakest Link and Dog Eat Dog, wanted to do a show that will blow off the American Tops. Even though adapted to the American taste in TV Shows and heavily promoted on Fox, The Rich List only aired once: on November 1st, 2006. It was cancelled due to low ratings. Fred Roggin tried to revive it in 2009 under the name “The Money List” but it only lasted nine episodes.

Secret Talents of the Stars – Americans seem to like watching stars dance, but they lose interest when it comes to what other things celebs can do. Eva Longoria is hot to be watched dancing, but if you let her cook burritos, she’s not that interesting anymore. The smart guys of CBS thought of making a show where stars can compete in demonstrating talents in other areas of activity than the ones that made them famous. This is how reality talent show “Secret Talents of the Stars” was born. Funny though, it only lasted one episode, since the ratings recorded were incredibly low. So who won?

The Will – CBS has got a bad hand when it comes to new TV shows apparently. This show aired for the first time on January 8th 2005. It was a contest between family members who competed for getting their name in a will. After one appearance, it was cancelled. It was later revived by Fox.

So what is the mystery of these cancelled TV shows? Could it be just that they in the wrong place at the wrong time?
